4 drug peddlers arrested in Pulwama, Anantnag

Srinagar, Aug 30: In continuation of its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police have arrested 4 drug peddlers in Pulwama and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Pulwama, a police party of Police Station Pulwama at a checkpoint established at Arihal, intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number PB03AN-8375 ridden by 2 persons. They have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Khan, resident of Matipora Kulgam and Irshad Ahmad Khan, resident of Shalipora Kulgam. During the search, 20.21 grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession.

   

Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. The motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 176/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been taken up.

In Anantnag, a police team of Police Post Shairbagh at a checkpoint established at Pehroo Curve Anantnag, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL7CJ-8332 with 2 persons onboard. During the search, 19 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle.

They have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir and Tariq Ahmad Mir, both residents of Mir Check Mattan. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 169/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
