5 drug peddlers arrested in separate incidents in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 29: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police arrested 5 drug peddlers in Budgam, Sopore and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Budgam, Police Post Humhama received an information from OC drop gate 35 BN CRPF stationed at Airport Srinagar that they intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Innova Crysta) bearing registration number JK02CJ-2343 driven by Raj Singh, resident of Aghar Jito Pungath Udhampur.

   

During the search, a poppy straw-like substance weighing about 2.96 Kgs was recovered. The accused has been arrested and the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized on the spot. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 189/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Budgam and investigation has been set into motion.

In Sopore, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Putkha under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir at a checkpoint established at Check Hygam Crossing, apprehended a suspicious person. During the search, police recovered 144 capsules of banned drugs from his possession. He has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Krankshivan Sopore. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Where he remains in custody.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Kanispora-Singhpora Crossing, intercepted three persons identified as Aqib Salam Bhat, Yasir Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Sherwani Colony Khawajabagh and Simranjeet Singh, resident of Singhpora Kalan Baramulla.
