Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who continues to be under house detention, has castigated the authorities for thwarting the march to Naqashband Sahib shrine to pay tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931.
Kashmir’s Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik, had called for march to Naqashband Sahib shrine to pay homage to martyrs today.
“Geelani tried to march towards Naqashband Sahib to pay tributes to 13th July martyrs as announced earlier by the JRL, however, forces deployed outside his residence prevented him from marching ahead,” the Hurriyat (G) spokesman said in a statement.
He said that Geelani was not allowed by the police to venture out of his Hyderpora residence here to visit Naqashband Sahab shrine to pay tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931.
“We are duty-bound to carry the mission of these martyrs to its logical end. We are pursuing a movement to achieve our birth right to self-determination to decide the political destiny of state as guaranteed and laid in UN charter, ” the spokesman quoted Geelani as having said in a statement.
He decried what he said, the curbs and restrictions imposed by the authorities to thwart Naqashband Sahib march.
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman flayed the authorities for placing many Hurriyat leaders under house detention. He said, “The police were not allowing the family members of incarcerated JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik to meet him in the Police Station, Kothibagh, which is highly condemnable.” “Meanwhile, Hurriyat Molvi Bashir Irfani addressed public gathering in Jamia Masjid, Hyderpora, and paid his rich tributes to 13th July martyrs,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Geelani and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, in a joint statement expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Ghulam Muhammad Khan, father of senior leader Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi, describing him as a pious person and eminent businessman, social and political activists.
