Kupwara, Aug 05: The two kilometer bypass road in main town Handwara which otherwise would be a lifeline for people has turned into a nightmarish experience due to its pathetic condition which is subjecting commuters to severe hardships.

The road has developed huge potholes on multiple spots causing immense hardships for the commuters. Even the drivers are reluctant to ply vehicles over this road. “We have taken up this issue with the concerned department numerous times but for the last one year we are being dodged and nothing is being done with regard to macadamising this vital road,” said a transporter.

Even people from Baramulla and other areas would use this road but due its pathetic condition, they prefer to use the old option while going or coming back from Kupwara. “Not only the two kilometer bypass road but the approach road going towards new bus stand Handwara happens to be in dilapidated condition causing immense hardships. The shopkeepers and people walking on the road face immense inconvenience due to the dust on the road,” said a shopkeeper.

Meanwhile Executive Engineer Roads and Buildings Division Handwara, Farooq Ahmad Shah, told Greater Kashmir that the two kilometer bypass road has been handed over to Beacon, so the macadamisation of the road pertains to Beacon and he was not in a position to tell anything about the issue.

However officials said the approach road towards the new bus stand will be macadamised provided funds are released by Municipal Committee Handwara.
