Huge quantity of illicit timber seized in Mawar

Kupwara, May 27: Police and Forest Department in a joint operation seized illicit timber in the Puthwari Mawer area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Police said on Monday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara Dawood Ayoub told Greater Kashmir that acting on a tip-off about the presence of a huge quantity of timber in the forest area of Puthwari Nowgam, a joint operation was launched by Police and officials of the Forest Department during which 65 cft timber was recovered.

   

He said that the culprits would be identified soon and action would be taken against them.

Meanwhile, Divisional Forest Officer Langate Ihazaz Ahmad said that a team has been framed to enquire about the involvement of forest officials posted in the area.

He said, if found guilty, strict action would be taken against them.
