OGW arrested in Kupwara: BSF

Kupwara, June 12:    Border Security Forces (BSF) Wednesday apprehended an Over-Ground Worker (OGW) at Reddi Chowkibal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.

A statement of the BSF issued here said, “Based on specific information by BSF and further corroborated by SSP Kupwara regarding transhipment of arms and ammunition and explosives by an OGW, a joint checkpoint was established at Reddi Chowkibal market by BSF, Army, and J&K Police.”

   

The statement said that during the search, an OGW Shabir Ahmad, son of Ghulam Din of Gujar Basti, Ladriwam, Kupwara, was apprehended and upon his personal search, arms, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from his possession, which included a pistol and a pistol magazine, 10 pistol rounds, four hand grenades and two IEDs.

“The terrorists were planning to use these stores to carry out terrorist activities during forthcoming Amarnath Yatra in Srinagar and surrounding areas,” it said. “This operation has delivered a major blow to the nefarious designs of PoK-based terrorist groups who have always aspired to disturb the peace and tranquillity in Kashmir.”
