Parts of Kashmir receive light showers

Srinagar, June 5: Parts of Kashmir received light showers, leading to a significant drop in night temperatures.

Conversely, the Jammu division experienced a rise in temperatures, adding to the challenges posed by the ongoing heatwave.

   

The Meteorological Department officials here said that during the last 24 hours until 8:30 am on Wednesday, Srinagar received 0.4 mm of rainfall, Pahalgam 2.8 mm, Kupwara 5.1 mm, and Gulmarg 7.8 mm.

The weatherman has forecast scattered light rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds in some areas until June 7. There is a possibility of moderate to intense showers for brief periods, along with thunder and lightning during this time.

The MeT advised the farmers to suspend agricultural operations until June 6 due to the adverse weather conditions.

Light rain and thunder are expected at a few places on June 8, with partly cloudy to generally dry weather forecast from June 9 to 15.

The rainfall brought down the night temperatures across Kashmir.

Srinagar recorded a low of 12.6 degrees Celsius, a drop from 14.8 degrees Celsius the previous night, making it 0.8 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, down from 12.2 degrees Celsius, and it was 1 degree Celsius below normal.

In the Pahalgam health resort, the temperature dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius from 8.1 degrees Celsius, which is 0.5 degrees Celsius above normal.

Kokernag saw a significant decrease, recording a minimum of 9.5 degrees Celsius against 12.8 degrees Celsius, making it 2.7 degrees Celsius below normal.

Kupwara town’s minimum temperature fell to 11.3 degrees Celsius from 11.7 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees Celsius below normal.

The most notable drop was in Gulmarg, where the temperature plummeted to 4.6 degrees Celsius from 10.6 degrees Celsius the previous night, making it 4.1 degrees Celsius below normal.

In stark contrast, Jammu experienced a surge in night temperatures.

It recorded a minimum temperature of 30.5 degrees Celsius, up from 23.7 degrees Celsius the previous night, which is 4.8 degrees Celsius above normal.

This rise exacerbates the discomfort caused by the ongoing heatwave in the region.

Other areas in the Jammu division also reported high night temperatures, with Banihal recording 13.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 17.6 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 15.2 degrees Celsius.
