PDD casual labourer dies due to electrocution at Rafiabad

Baramulla, Jan 11: A casual labourer at the Power Development Department Rafiabad, Baramulla, lost his life to electrocution while repairing a transmission line in the area on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Jammal Reshi, of Gund Chobutara Kralgund.

   

Reshi, met with the unfortunate incident during the line repair, resulting in an immediate electric shock. Despite swift measures, he was declared brought dead upon arrival at NTPHC Dangiwacha.

Locals revealed that the victim was lacking necessary safety tools and faced the tragic consequences of an irresponsible approach within the department. They expressed concern over the absence of safety measures, which caused the death of Reshi.

Meanwhile, authorities have initiated legal action, and registered a case under relevant sections of the law.

The locals have urged the administration to provide compensation to the bereaved family, as they are living in abject poverty.

This incident highlights the importance of ensuring safety protocols within essential service sectors to prevent such tragic losses. The lack of safety gear among the casual labourers of PDD department has caused several deaths in the past.
