Plastic waste threatens Gurez Valley’s pristine beauty

I am writing to bring attention to a matter of growing concern in our beautiful Gurez Valley.

Over the past two years, the valley has witnessed a significant increase in tourism, which has undoubtedly contributed to the local economy.

However, this influx has also brought with it a disturbing rise in plastic waste accumulation across our pristine landscapes.

The once unspoiled beauty of Gurez is now being marred by discarded plastic bags, bottles, and other non-biodegradable waste.

This not only poses a serious threat to our environment but also endangers the wildlife that inhabits this region.

What is most alarming is the lack of awareness and concern among both tourists and locals about the long-term damage this pollution is causing.

The issue needs to be highlighted to raise awareness among the public.

I also urge the local administration to take immediate and stringent measures.

The administration should enforce strict regulations against littering and the use of single-use plastics, and initiate regular clean-up drives in collaboration with local communities and environmental organizations.

Gurez Valley is a jewel in the crown of Kashmir, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that it remains so for generations to come.
