Programme over harm of drug abuse organised

Kangan, June 26: Drugs and Food Control organization Deptt Ganderbal organised an awareness programme on International Day Against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking in collaboration with Government Degree College Kangan and Chemists and Distributors Association Kangan and Ganderbal on Wednesday.

Assistant Drug Controller Ganderbal Nageena Akhter was chief guest while the event saw participation of students, members of Chemists and Distributors Association Kangan, Ganderbal, lawyers, social activists and officials. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Drug Inspector Hadiya.

   

Every year, 26 June is marked as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The day, also known as World Drug Day, is marked to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. The theme of this year is “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.”

Speakers on the occasion said that every year June 26 is observed as international day against drug abuse, in order to bring attention to the global drug problem and it also serves as a reminder that every one can play a role in tackling the issue. It is an event dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and illicit trafficking. The day is used to highlight the global efforts to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trade. They said that being a serious concern it is the duty of every responsible citizen to play the role in eradicating the menace from society.

They said the government has initiated an ambitious Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) currently operational in all districts of the country with an aim to create awareness about ill effects of substance abuse among the youth, with special focus on higher education institutes, University campuses.
