Kupwara, July 11: Two days after four members of a family died while fetching water from a nearby reservoir, authorities in Handwara have provided drinking water to Rajpora village, thereby easing their hardships.

However the locals seem to be not so happy with the development because of the recent tragedy which claimed four lives of a family.

The residents said that they had approached Jal Shakti Department Division Handwara numerous times for the required number of pipes so that the water could be carried  to the village from the nearby hillock, but they always showed callous approach.

“I still remember when in 2021 we out of our own constructed a reservoir in the foothills of Khikshi hillock, some one kilometer away from our village, following which we approached Jal Shakti Department Handwara for required number of pipes so that the water could be taken to village, but every time we were dodged with false promises until the recent tragedy unfolded,” a local youth told Greater Kashmir.

“The timely action could have prevented the loss of lives. If the pipes had been installed earlier, we would not have lost our near and dear ones,”he added.

The residents have however thanked Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara, Aziz Ahmad Rather for keeping his promise of providing drinking water to Rajpora within 48 hours.
