Srinagar, Feb 9: The sub-zero temperatures continue to prevail in Kashmir, with Srinagar registering a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius on Friday.
The Meteorological Department officials here said that while Srinagar’s temperature saw a slight increase from the previous night’s minus 5.2 degrees Celsius, it remains significantly below normal by 4.4 degrees Celsius for this time of year.
Qazigund mirrored the cold spell with a minimum temperature of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, unchanged from the previous night, marking a departure of 4.9 degrees Celsius below normal.
Pahalgam health resort recorded a low of minus 10.3 degrees Celsius, a slight improvement from the previous night’s minus 11.9 degrees Celsius, yet still 4.1 degrees Celsius below its seasonal average.
Kokernag, another south Kashmir resort, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5 degrees Celsius, slightly cooler than the previous night, with temperatures remaining below normal by 3 degrees Celsius.
The temperatures in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district dropped to minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, down from minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, remaining 2.9 degrees Celsius below the seasonal norm.
Gulmarg ski resort recorded a low of minus 9 degrees Celsius, a slight increase from the previous night, yet still 2.3 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, temperatures dropped to 5.3 degrees Celsius, marking a departure of 4.2 degrees Celsius below normal.
Other areas in Jammu also experienced cold weather, with Banihal recording a low of 2 degrees Celsius, Batote at 3.3 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah at minus 1.6 degrees Celsius.
The MeT has forecast dry weather until February 17, with occasional cloudy evenings expected from February 14.
From February 18 to 20, there is a possibility of light snow and rain.
