Traffic Police act tough against overloading, overcharging in Sonamarg

Ganderbal, May 11: Acting on the complaints of overcharging and to address traffic violations besides improving visitor experience, the Traffic Police Rural Kashmir conducted an inspection drive at tourist destination Sonamarg in Ganderbal district.

The drive led by Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh along with DySP Traffic Ganderbal and SHO Sonamarg witnessed the inspection of various vehicles including private and commercial vehicles. The focus was on curbing overcharging and overloading to facilitate both tourists and locals. The team also conducted inspection of the Ladakh-bound trucks to check overloading.

   

SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that the drive was aimed to check the overloading of Ladakh bound vehicles and overcharging by vehicles carrying tourists.

“The primary focus of the drive was on combating overloading of passengers, with zero tolerance for such violations. The commitment to enforcing traffic rules was evident in this extensive drive, which is being carried out across all rural districts of Kashmir,” SSP said. Substantial fines totaling Rs 30,000 were issued to offenders found guilty of traffic violations with officials adding that about 60 challans were made during the drive and two vehicles were seized for extra charging from tourists.
