Kargil, Aug 18: The Sub Divisional Magistrate Drass, Vishal Atri , a KAS officer, in Kargil district took an initiative for cleansing of a heavy polluted stream at Matayan area of Drass.
The stream, a vital water source for the local community, and a tourist spot had become a dumping ground for waste and sewage, posing serious health risks to residents.
The officer spotted the garbage while on a visit to the area. SDM Drass asked the visitors not to throw garbage near streams and show a good civic sense. The locals have hailed the gesture of the senior officer.
