Black Bear kills man, injures another in J-K’s Ramban

Srinagar, Aug 05: A man was killed while another injured in a bear attack in the upper reaches of tehsil Ukhral Pogal Paristan of Ramban district on Sunday, officials said.

Ramban wildlife’s Range Officer, Hukum Singh said that the two men were herding their cattle in the forest area when a black bear appeared and attacked them, killing one of them on spot.

   

While the deceased has been identified as Nazir Ahmed Malik, 48, son of Mohammad Hanief Malik, resident of Halla Dandrath in Ramban. The injured has been identified as Reyaz Ahmed Gosri, 15, son of Ghulabo Gorsi, resident of Ghonate Ramban.

Gosri is presently undergoing treatment at PHC Ukhral while his condition is said to be stable, reports said.

The doctors at the health facility have done post-mortem on the deceased’s body, said reports.

Hukum Singh said that two teams of from the wildlife department have been sent to the area, but didn’t said what the purpose was.

He said that the incident occurred in the upper reaches Autootop of Ramban and Pogal Paristan borders at around 7 pm on Sunday.

Singh said that the compensation under rules will be provided to the both dead and injured after preparing the case file from wildlife department.
