DGP to address people’s grievances on 2nd, 4th Saturday every month

Srinagar, Nov 11: Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Ranjan Swain on Saturday said that he would meet people to redress their grievances every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.

A statement of J&K Police issued here said that on learning that many people had been approaching and coming to the Police Headquarters J&K, Jammu, without a prior appointment as grievance redressal seekers and also that many had raised concern over lack of clarity about the procedure and date and time to meet the DGP, resulting in great difficulties, the DGP decided that on every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, two hours from 2 pm to 4 pm would be reserved for meeting persons who have grievances pertaining to the Police administration.

Swain requested that it would be helpful if the complainant or person seeking redressal of grievance comes with a written statement or application.

The DGP also held that usually the complainant or redressal seekers should have approached junior officers of concerned police units who have the original mandate to redress such grievances.

The statement said that in other words, directly approaching the DGP without giving an opportunity to the concerned officers in the field is not a healthy practice for obvious reasons.
It said that hence it was decided that priority would be given to those who had approached field police units and yet their grievances remain unresolved.
