Srinagar, June 07:  Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Friday said that the new moon had been sighted and that the Eid-al-Adha this year should be celebrated on June 17.

He said that the crescent for the month of Dhul Hijjah, year 1445 as per the Islamic Calendar, was seen today and subsequently the month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 will begin from tomorrow (08-June-2024).

“Eid will be celebrated on 17th of June 2024,” he said as per news agency Kashmir Scroll.

Muslims across the globe sacrifice animals as directed by their religion, reciprocating the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), who when commanded by God to sacrifice his only child in the path of God went straight to obey the order.

As he tried to slit the throat of his son Hazrat Ismael (A.S), the knife didn’t work. A sheep was then sent by God, directing Ibrahim that he had passed the test and he should now sacrifice the sheep sent by his Lord.
