Encounter in Kreeri Pattan

Rajouri, Aug 29: A gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in a remote village of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir late last night.

A team of security forces was conducting a search operation in remote Lathi village of Khawas tehsil in the district following a tip-off about the presence of militants, said an official.

He said contact was established as the forces zeroed in on the hiding militants, leading to a gunfight.

The exchange of fire lasted for hours after midnight, said the official, adding that intermittent firing exchange was going on when last reports were received.

Another encounter broke out in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night after the security forces reportedly foiled an infiltration bid.
