Minor dies of head injury after toy train ‘overturns’ at Chandigarh mall

Srinagar, June 24: An 11-year-old boy died of head injuries after falling from a toy train at Elane Mall in Chandigarh. The victim has been identified as Shahbaz Singh from Nawanshahr in Punjab.

The Indian Express quoting police official said that FIR has been registered and driver (Saurav) of the toy train has been arrested.

   

Quoting police reports the newspaper said that Jatinder Pal Singh, a resident of Nawanshahr, along with his wife, son Shahbaz, and his cousin’s family, had travelled to the city for an outing. They visited Elante Mall, where Shahbaz and his cousin took a train ride around 9:30 pm on Saturday.

The two boys were sitting in the last compartment of the toy train. During the ride, the compartment Shahbaz was in allegedly overturned, causing him to fall and sustain severe head injuries. His cousin escaped unhurt.

Shahbaz’s family rushed him to Government Medical College & Hospital at Chandigarh Sector 32 for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries. His body was handed over to his parents after an autopsy.

“We were informed about the unfortunate incident involving one of the service providers working on our premises on the night of June 22, 2024. Our emergency response team rushed the victim to a hospital who succumbed to his injuries and the local police station was informed immediately. We are fully cooperating with the local authorities in this regard and deeply sympathise with the family,” Nexus Elante Mall said in a statement.
