Online Scam | Cyber Police Ganderbal recover smartphones, restore hacked social media accounts

Ganderbal, June 1:  The Cyber Cell in Ganderbal has successfully resolved an online money scam, resulting in the recovery of 16 smartphones worth lakhs and the restoration of several hacked social media accounts. The Cyber Cell officials announced that they have placed a hold on Rs 6,20,000 and refunded Rs 39,900 to a victim’s account.

Senior Superintendent of Police, (SSP) Ganderbal, Sandeep Gupta while sharing the details in a press conference here on Saturday said that amid the rising cases of cyber crime, a cyber cell was established in Ganderbal in February to solve these grievances and extend help to people falling victim to the Cyber fraud. SSP said that the Cyber Cell Ganderbal is working with dedicated officials and experts.

   

“Cyber Cell Ganderbal has received over 30 complaints and applications from the public regarding various online money scams and missing cell phones through the online Cyber Crime Portal and offline modes since its establishment on February 21, 2024,”SSP said.” Working very professionally the team has not only solved a large online money scam but has also placed a hold on Rs 6,20,000 and refunded Rs 400,00 to a victim’s account. Additionally, the team has recovered 16 missing or lost smartphones worth lakhs and restored six hacked social media accounts, including Facebook and WhatsApp,” he added.

SSP Ganderbal urged people to remain cautious of these cyber scams and inform police immediately if they face any such frauds. ” We urge the general public to refrain from sharing bank details, account details, OTPs, and other personal information with anyone to stay alert and vigilant against such scams,” SSP said.

Officials said the cyber cell unit Ganderbal comprises executive police officials and telecom officials who are well-trained in dealing with various financial frauds, such as KYC update fraud, OLX fraud, pending electricity bill fraud, investment-related fraud, and fake loan app fraud, as well as social media blackmailing.
