Srinagar-Jammu highway reopens after repair work

Srinagar-Jammu National Highway

Ramban, June, 12: After being closed for repair work in Ramban district last night, the Srinagar- Jammu National Highway re-opened for two-way traffic of light medium passenger vehicles and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles this morning.

The stranded vehicles were cleared on priority after scheduled traffic resumed on the National Highway. They said heavy vehicles released from Jakhani Udhampur are heading towards Jammu in a regulated manner.

Traffic officials in Ramban said, National Highway, remained open. However they said traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, on-foot movement of nomad families with their livestock and due to single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar, Cafeteria, Panthyal, Magarkote, Shalgari, Gangroo, Nachlana besides poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal.

They said earlier on Tuesday night National Highway remained blocked for around eight hours due to road repair works.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities said subject to fair weather and good road conditions light-medium vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side whereas heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Kashmir from Udhampur after assessing the road and traffic situation on highway on Thursday.

Traffic authorities once again advised passenger vehicle operators, and commuters not to undertake journeys on National Highway during the night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal sectors.
