Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remains open

Ramban, June 2: The Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open today.

But the traffic movement was slow due to poor road surface conditions besides on foot movement of nomad families with their herds of livestock and single-lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehad –Cafeteria, Panthyal Nachlana, Gangroo, Shalgari, Kishtwari Pathar at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors.

   

Traffic officials said despite slow traffic movement hundreds of light medium and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri and Banihal tunnels although at a slow pace till late Sunday evening.

They added that the highway will remain open for two-way traffic of passenger light-medium vehicles and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Kashmir on Monday, traffic authorities said.

The officials added that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, light and medium passenger vehicles would be allowed to ply on both sides of the highway on Monday.

However, they said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply after assessing traffic and road conditions towards Kashmir from Jakhani, Udhampur on Monday.
