Traffic disrupted on Srinagar-Jammu NH

Ramban, May 26:  Free flow of one-way vehicular traffic movement on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was disrupted due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and single lane and damaged road stretch at many places between Ramban and Banihal on Sunday.

Due to a single-lane road stretch at a few places and 90-degree curves near Tunnel T5, Panthyal, between Ramban and Banihal, the area witnessed frequent traffic jams. The traffic officials said that the free flow of traffic was disrupted due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, on-foot movement of nomads, and single-lane road stretches at several places between Nashri and Banihal.

They said that the highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Kashmir.

The traffic officials said that the movement of traffic remained slow due to single-lane and poor road surface conditions at Dalwas, Cafeteria Mehar, Panthyal, Gangroo, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pathshalwararhi, and various other locations.

The traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic at Dalwass said that hundreds of vehicles crossed the Chenani-Nashri tunnel till late Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, traffic officials at the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban said that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, passenger LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed towards Jammu from Qazigund on Monday.

The traffic officials advised the vehicle operators and commuters to follow lane discipline as overtaking would lead to congestion.

They also advised against plying against the advisory and traffic plan due to single-lane road issues at many places between Nashri and Banihal.
