Water scarcity hits Kupwara village

Kupwara, May 30: The residents of Hangah Mawer area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are facing water scarcity for the last ten days.

The residents have expressed strong resentment against Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide them potable drinking water resulting in severe hardships to the inhabitants.

The residents complained that they were reeling under acute shortage of water for the past 10 days but authorities have failed to take any tangible measure despite repeated pleas.

Residents said that due to non availability of tap water they are forced to use contaminated water from a local stream exposing them to water borne diseases.

“For the last ten days we are really suffering due to the non-availability of water. The main service line to our village was laid three decades ago which has worn-out at many places. Need of the hour is to approve a new scheme for our village so that the issue is resolved once for all,” said a local resident.

The locals have urged administration to pay attention to the village and restore the water supply at the earliest.
