The deffective drainage system in several parts of Srinagar city is causing lot of inconvenience to people during rains. The roads and inner lanes and bylanes get inundated within no time whenever it rains heavily. Subsequently, the movement of pedestrians and also that of the vehicles becomes problematic.

The vehicles have to move slowly on the inundated roads. Sometimes massive traffic jamming is caused even on important roads particularly during the peak hours of morning and evening. The problem is not confined to a particular road or a particular area but several roads and multiple areas in the city are affected. Residents say that the slow pace of works under Srinagar Smart City Project at a number of places added to their woes.

The dug up roads and footpaths during rainy days caused more inconvenience. The entire drainage system across the city needs to be improved. The authorities say that some improvement was made in some of areas through the Srinagar Smart City Project works. However, the local residents of a number of areas say that the drainage related problem has not been solved completely in their areas.

In other areas, not covered by the Smart City Project, the deffective drainage system has to be corrected. If it is not done the residents would continue to suffer. The damaged and deffective pipes have to be replaced by the new ones. There are several areas in the city, which do not have the drainage facility. Such a facility must be made available in these areas. A number of new residential colonies have come up but some of those are not having the drainage system. This system has to be provided there.

There is also need to have more stationed and mobile dewatering pumps. During heavy rains when the roads are flooded, the dewatering pumps play an important role. Services of such pumps are utilised in some of the areas. People from other areas also demand these dewatering pumps. Wherever there is need for such pumps the demand of the residents must be met at the earliest.
