Srinagar, June 6: Winning independent candidate from north Kashmir’s Baramulla Parliamentary seat, Sheikh Abdul Rashid has petitioned Patiala House Court New Delhi, seeking interim bail to take oath as a Member of Parliament (MP).

“We have filed an application seeking interim bail or custody parole for swearing in and for other parliamentary functions before the special Patiala House Court in Delhi,” advocate Vikhyat Oberoi representing Sheikh told Greater Kashmir over phone, when contacted.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) of the Special Court on Thursday sought the response of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to the application filed by Sheikh.

Advocate Oberi said that the court heard arguments on the application on Wednesday and Thursday and the matter will come up again on Friday. “The National Investigation Agency shall be filing response to the application by Friday,” he said.

Sheikh, lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) has been in jail since August 2019 and won the Baramulla parliamentary seat recently.
