2 drug peddlers arrested in Handwara | Contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Mar 30: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Police party led by SDPO Handwara accompanied by SHO PS Handwara and Incharge PP Chogul at a checkpoint established at Kulangam near Tutigund crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK09-5672 with two persons on board. During the search, 40 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from their possession. The accused persons have been identified as Sajad Ah Bakshi (Driver), resident of Maidan Chogal and Nisar Ah Khan, resident of Tutigund. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

   

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and further investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
