Srinagar, Aug 10: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Saturday ordered new school timings for both government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir division.

The new timing will be effective from Monday, August 12, 2024.

As per the official order, the new timing of schools falling within the municipal limits of Srinagar would be 9 am to 3 pm while schools operating outside the municipal limits of Srinagar and other areas of Kashmir would be 10 am to 4 pm. “All the concerned institutions should strictly adhere to new timings. Any deviation in this regard will be viewed seriously,” the order reads.

The DSEK in July ordered a change in school timings for all government and private recognised schools up to higher secondary level. The idea was to provide a respite to the school children from the heat wave.

The new timing for the schools was fixed from 8 am to 1 pm for the school children while the teaching and the non-teaching staff were directed to attend their duties till 2 pm.

As per the order, the arrangement was supposed to continue till August 10, 2024.

The decision to announce morning timing for schools was taken after representations about change in school timings poured in from parents and other stakeholders amidst the intense heat wave prevailing in J&K.
