2nd phase: 79 file nominations for 4 committees in North Kashmir

On Thursday, 79 candidates filed their nominations for the 46 wards of four municipal committees for the second phase of urban local bodies’ elections in several areas of northern Kashmir. 

The four committees are Langate, Watergam, Kunzar and Sumbal. 

   

Officials said 10 candidates from Congress, 11 from BJP and 19 independents filed their nominations on Thursday. 

For Sumbal municipal committee, 40 nominations were received for 13 wards. The total number of electors in the committee is 9048.  

Similarly nine nominations were filed for Kunzar municipal committee (with seven wards and 1366 electors), 15 candidates  are contesting from  Watergam municipal committee (13 wards with 4407 electors). 

Returning officers at Langate municipal committee (13 wards with 4572 electors) received 15 nominations on Thursday. 

The first phase of filing nominations concluded on Tuesday. Around 160 candidates are contesting from Baramulla Municipal Council and three municipal committees of Bandipora, Handwara and Kupwara.
