Langate College functions from old hospital building

A College in Langate area of Kupwara is functional from an old hospital building for past more than a year.

The College was approved by the government in 2018 and theclass work was started the next year. The College has got approval for foursubjects in arts stream. It. However, has one permanent assistant professor ofcommerce besides one non-teaching member.

   

The educated youth hiredon academic arrangements run the College, said an official.

Last year, the collegeenrolled 50 students for first semester, said an administrator.

“This year we are expecting more students to join theCollege,” he said.

However many students who have qualified class 12 exams saidthey would prefer to get admission in Handwara College.

“But, we are being denied admission there and authoritiesare forcing us to take admission in Langate College,” said a student.

The authorities are yet to start construction on ofpermanent campus of the langate College in Udipora village. “The delay insetting up the campus is one of the reasons for lesser number of students,”said the official.

The langate College is working under supervision of PrincipalHandwara College, Ghulam Nabi Palla.

“It is a developing College, but we are taking all measuresto make it attractive for students,” he said.

The Principal said they have not denied admission to anystudent at Handwara College. But, he said, the students were requested to optLangate college which will increase enrollment there.

He said Handwara College has 4,500 students on rolls. “Ifstudents from Langate too prefer this College it will put pressure on availableinfrastructure there,” the Principal said.
