The district administration has asked all licensed gun owners to deposit their firearms with the police ahead of the municipal polls in Jammu, scheduled next month.
“All licensed arms holders including civilians and retired military persons asked to deposit their guns in their jurisdictional police stations within five days of publications of the notification,” reads an order issued by Ramesh Kumar, the district magistrate of Jammu.
The directions were issued to “ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of municipal polls” scheduled for October 8.
