Mustafabad residents aghast over lack of dewatering facilities

Residents of Mustafabad sector 2nd HMT have decried failure of authorities to put in place dewatering facilities in the area.

A delegation of aggrieved residents said the area gets inundated with even light rains. They said the problem has aggravated after the floods in 2014.

The residents said few years ago, a pump was installed at the mouth of Hokersar on the HMT road.  They said the pump used to drain excessive water. “But for the unknown reasons, the pump was removed from the place after floods in 2014. We have been suffering since then and it is very difficult to move out especially for old and school going children,” they said.

The residents said there was a proposal for connecting this area with an abandoned water channel for which survey was conducted in 2015. They said it was decided during a visit of a team of officers that work existing choked channel shall be taken up and the area will be connected with it which will ultimately be linked with pumping station at Shalteng.

The residents said another proposal was to connect the area with the existing drainage network line from Gazalia Abad side. “Till date nothing on ground has been done. We have been moving from pillar to post for getting our grievances resolved, but to no avail. We request the deputy commissioner Srinagar to look into the matter and direct the concerned officials to take measures for putting in place dewatering facilities,” the residents said. They said the colony is approved colony of SMC
