Promote agri skills among Ladakh youth: VC SKUAST to KVKs

SKUAST-K held scientific advisory committee (SAC) meetings of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Leh and Kargil districts to synchronise the farmers’ need with extension services of the university.

The SAC meetings held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor, SKUAST, Prof Nazeer Ahmad during his Ladakh visit, also reviewed the activities of the each KVK there and action plans were formulated in consultation with the heads of the state development departments there. These decisions were taken based on inputs from the farmers at grass root level.

   

Ahmed while reviewing the activities of these KVKs appreciated the work done by the scientists and advised extension functionaries of development departments and the KVK scientists of the university to double the efforts in taking the university technological interventions to the farmers’ fields through extension outreach programmes and exhorted upon the extension functionaries to regularly disseminate the technologies through print and electronic media in local and vernacular language and  promote skill development programs and other opportunities which provide livelihood avenues to unemployed youth.

Vice-Chancellor also advised the programme coordinators of all the KVKs to ensure that technologies of the University reaches at block levels through adoption of area specific locations and involvement of local village heads in each district.

Dorjay Mutup, CEC,  LAHDC, Leh also spoke in the occasion. Director extension education of the university, Mushtaq Ahmad, who was accompanying the VC also spoke during the meetings.

In all the meetings, Programme Coordinator of the KVKs presented  Action Taken Report and Future Action Plan to be undertaken which has been formulated in consultation with the Heads of the Line Departments in looking to the farmers needs and requirements
