Sanctioned 2 years ago, transformer still not installed in Dreari village

The residents of Dreari village, a village located close to Line of Control in Majakote, are aghast at the Power Development department as a 63 KV power transformer, which was sanctioned by the state government two years ago for the electrification of the hamlet, has still not been installed by the department due to an alleged confrontation among the local workers of Peoples Democratic Party and Congress.

As per the locals, there is no electricity in the upper hamlet, Mothan Wali Bandhi, of the village and a transformer that was sanctioned two-and-a-half-years ago has still not been installed. “The wiring network was completed and poles were also installed, but the transformer has been lying on the ground for the past two years. It has not been installed,” a local said.

He further said that the reason behind the delay is a “confrontation between some local PDP and Congress workers, who have sabotaged the working of the PDD in the area and have stalled the installation.”

“We have been living in the dark age and stand deprived of our basic right to electricity due to a political clash among workers. The department stands unmoved by our issues,” the locals said, claiming to have brought the matter into the notice of the officers of PDD and political representatives time and again, but of no use.

When contacted by Greater Kashmir, a PDD officer, wishing anonymity, confirmed that the 11 KV and Low Tension power wiring for the hamlet has been completed, but the transformer has not yet been installed. He further said, “A local person of the area is creating hurdles in the installation and there is a need to deploy police along with PDD staff for installation of the transformer.”
