Rajouri, Nov 8: Hundreds of students from different education institutions and studying in different classes took part in the ninth District Karate Championship organised in Rajouri on Wednesday.
This championship was organised by the Amateur Karate-Do Association Rajouri which is affiliated to the Amateur Karate-Do Association Jammu and Kashmir and recognised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and affiliated with the World Karate Federation and Asian Karate-Do Federation which is recognised by the International Olympics Committee.
The championship was organised in the indoor hall of the sports stadium in Rajouri in which students filled with sportive spirits competed with each other setting a trademark of promotion of Karate in Rajouri.
The award ceremony of this district championship was organised at the indoor hall in which Additional District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Pawan K Parihar was the chief guest while Medical Superintendent of GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, Dr Mehmood H Bajar was guest of honour alongwith retired Executive Engineer Abdul Qayoom, General Secretary of Karate Association J&K Sanjay Tutto.
The participants and winners of the competition were felicitated during the award ceremony and medals, certificates and other prizes were distributed among them.
General Secretary of the Karate Association of Rajouri, Yasmeen Kouser, who organised the competition, said that Karate is not only a game but an aspect of education which sharpens both the physical as well as intellectual skills of students.
She said that there was a limited scope as well as exposure of Karate among the locals but now the game has received a platform and is promoted on a large scale with hundreds of students availing regular coaching of it.
Yasmeen said that the district championship of Karate paves the way for students to sharpen their skills through competitions besides inculcating an incomparable thrust of competition and participation among them.
