Ramban, June 5: Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium passenger vehicles and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles on Wednesday.

Traffic officials said that the highway, remained open. However, they said vehicular traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, on-foot movement of nomad families with their livestock and due to single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar  Cafeteria, Panthyal, Magarkote, Shalgari, Gangroo, and  Nachlana besides poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal.

They said earlier on Tuesday night National Highway remained blocked for seven hours due to road repair works.

Meanwhile, traffic Police headquarters issued a fresh advisory for Thursday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions light-medium vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side whereas heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Jammu from Qazigund Kashmir after assessing the road and traffic situation on highway on Thursday.

Traffic authorities once again advised passenger vehicle operators, and commuters not to undertake journeys on National Highway, during the night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal sectors.

Traffic authorities informed that the National Highway will remain closed for the night from  7 PM on Thursday evening for every type of traffic movement due to scheduled road repair works at several places between Nashri and Banihal.
