Woman peddler among 2 arrested with heroin in Jammu

Jammu, Mar 25: Jammu police Monday arrested two drug peddlers, including one woman peddler, with heroin (Chitta) like substance.

A police spokesperson said, “Continuing Jammu police’s drive under operation ‘Sanjeevani’ against drug peddlers, SHO Peermitha and in-charge Police Post Gujjar Nagar PSI Majid Shafi today apprehended one person namely Shoaib Quyoom, son of Abdul Quyoom, resident of Chenni Chowk, Anantnag during patrolling. On seeing the police party, the person tried to flee from the spot.”

   

Upon this, the police officials overpowered him and during his personal search, Heroin (Chitta) like substance, approximately 2 grams, was recovered from his possession.

“On this, case FIR No. 19/24 u/s 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Peermitha. During inquiry, the accused disclosed that he had purchased this heroin like substance from persons in Gujjar Nagar, Jammu. The house of suspected persons was raided, in presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class and during search, approximately 9 grams of heroin like substance were recovered from the possession of Nazia Bhat, daughter of Zaffar Bhat, resident of Near graveyard, Gujjar Nagar, Jammu,” the spokesperson said.

“Further investigation of the case is going on. Both the accused were arrested and contraband seized,” he said and added that Jammu police enjoined upon all citizens to be aware of drug menace and report any incident to it (Jammu Police). The identity of the person, giving information regarding this menace, would not be disclosed to anyone.

According to the police spokesperson, the operation was supervised by SP City Shivam Siddarth, led by SDPO City North Jammu Devinder Singh Bandral.
