Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)

Srinagar, Apr 22: In a significant move to boost the business environment in Kashmir, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) office bearers, led by President Javed Ahmad Tenga, met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar.

According to a statement issued by KCCI, the meeting focused on reviewing the status of pressing issues discussed in previous meetings.

The KCCI lauded the Lt. Governor for constituting the committee to address one-time settlement cases faced by MSMEs, a long-standing demand. It suggested including a KCCI representative to present the business community’s viewpoint.

Emphasizing the growing demand for GI-tagged Kashmiri products, the KCCI reiterated the need for an International Expo Mart in Srinagar, as the World Craft Council Jury recommended during their recent visit.

While welcoming the development and beautification initiatives, the KCCI expressed concern over delays and urged the Lt. Governor to expedite the completion of projects to alleviate inconveniences faced by traders and the public.

Citing the surge in demand for GI-tagged Kashmiri products, the KCCI highlighted the need for upgraded infrastructure and additional qualified manpower at the CDI to expedite the GI tagging process.

The KCCI urged the Lt. Governor to prioritize the Prime Minister’s “Ease of Doing Business” and “Single Window System” policies, citing slow implementation in Jammu & Kashmir despite over 1,000 services being made available online.

The KCCI sought the Lt. Governor’s intervention to streamline the renewal of tourism registration licenses under the Single Window System, grant provisional renewals, and permit repairs and renovations of hotels in tourist destinations.

Echoing the amnesty granted to domestic consumers, the KCCI requested expediting the power amnesty for commercial consumers to provide relief.

The Lt. Governor responded positively to the KCCI’s suggestions, assuring a decision on power amnesty for commercial consumers shortly. He pledged to complete Smart City projects on a fast track and consider other demands related to the Expo Centre, OTS committee membership, and tourism-related issues, the KCCI statement said.

The KCCI President expressed gratitude to the Lt Governor for his commitment to resolving the issues raised and fostering a business-friendly environment in the region.
