Srinagar, Apr 24 : The late night declaration of the class 8th result by the J&K SCERT proved to be a flop show as the websites of the respective DIETs were found out of order, leaving parents and the students high and dry.
As per the official communication, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) decided to declare the result of middle standard examination for session 2023-24 in both hard and soft zones.
The SCERT however decided that the respective Principals of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) will declare the result in one go.
“All the principal DIETs of the respective divisions may be informed to declare the result of middle standard examination (MSE) session 2023-24 on April 24 of 2024 in hard and soft zones in one go, after fulfilling all the formalities,” reads a communication issued from Joint Director (JD) SCERT central and addressed JD SCERT of Kashmir and Jammu division respectively.
As per the official figures, around 165000 students appeared in the class 8th examination out of which 158000 students have been declared as qualified.
However, as soon as the news about the declaration of class 8th results spread, the parents started surfing the websites of the concerned DIETs. But all the websites were found out of order, leaving the parents high and dry.
An official said that there was some problem in the server due to which the DIET websites were not working. “Server is down and people are working on it,” the official said.
Another official said that the result was directly uploaded by the clusters which created technical glitches in the system. “But the website of every DIET is being restored one by one. The result will be available on the website of each DIET,” the official said.
However the parents complained that out of 10 websites of DIET in Kashmir none of the websites was in order causing inconveniences to the parents till late night.
“Before making an announcement for declaration of the result, the concerned officers should have checked the working condition of the DIET website which went out of order after the announcement of result was made,” said Fayaz Ahmad, a parent from Srinagar.
Similar complaints were received from other districts as well as the parents faced huge inconveniences due to non functional websites.
“All the websites except one or two are down and parents are not able to check the results of their kids,” the parents said.
The parents castigated the SCERT of making late night announcement of the result without setting the system in order for the convenience of the students and the parents.
“The SCERT and DIETs created unnecessary chaos in families. It was better to wait for a night and declare the result during the day time,” said Jahangeer Ahmad, a parent from Baramulla who was struggling to check the result of his kid till 11pm.
Joint Director SCERT Hemraj Pakhroo was not available for his comments on the issue.
