Bandipora, Apr 18: Persistent waterlogging, triggered by incessant rains at the Government Polytechnic College in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, is hampering education with staff too impacted.
Students complained to Greater Kashmir that the college ground transforms into a “large cesspool”, making it nearly impossible to traverse to the different blocks of the department when it rains.
“We couldn’t attend classes or do practical work on Thursday,” students said on Thursday, sharing pictures and videos of the college which resembled a large pond after rain.
The students and staff shared that the waterlogging at the college is a “recurring issue” about which the authorities are aware, but “don’t address” the same.
In addition to the college ground resembling a cesspool, the students added, “The approach road is also in a terrible state.”
They said that even a “small drizzle” makes it slushy and muddy to walk on. Insiders at the college admitted that the problem has been “persistent, with no resolution from the administration despite promises.”
This newspaper learned from students and staff that the college ground is not fenced.
They said “Illegal mineral mining” is also contributing to the worsening condition of the road.
“Trucks and tractors use the college ground to transport material all day, which disrupts studies and violates privacy,” they said.
Students, wishing to remain anonymous, urged the district authorities to address these issues. “Resolve them ASAP so that our education is not hampered,” they said.
