2 labourers die after falling in trench in Kulgam village

Kulgam, Apr 19: Two workers including a migrant labourer died while two others sustained injuries after they slipped into a trench in a village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday.

The deceased workers have been identified as Muhammad Maqbool Dar of Checkpora, Kulgam and Aziz-ur-Reham of West Bengal.

   

According to an official, the incident occurred in Checkpora village at around 3 pm.

He said that the labourers were working on the trench when they suddenly fell into it.

“The Police and residents immediately initiated a rescue operation and took them out of the trench,” the official said.

He said that they were rushed to District Hospital Kulgam for treatment where two of them succumbed to injuries.

Medical Superintendent Gulzar Ahmad told Greater Kashmir over the phone that both Dar and Rehman were pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Of the other two injured, one has been discharged while another is being treated,” he said.
