Mustard fields paint Kashmir golden

Srinagar, Mar 26: Mustard fields, which are now in full bloom in the vast tracts of land in Kashmir valley, are wearing eye-catching looks and have become a major attraction for visitors here.
This has also led to expectations of the bumper mustard crop.

Tourists visiting Kashmir valley from different parts of the country and outside are fascinated by the mustard fields that have turned the Kashmir valley into golden.

   

Tourists visiting Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg witness huge mustard fields in full bloom.
The highway stretch from Srinagar to Pahalgam has large mustard fields and many tourists feast their eyes with the scenic view of the blooming mustard flowers.

These tourists are seen enjoying the scenic beauty and clicking pictures in the mustard fields.
Some tourists said that the place gives them a feeling of being in Switzerland.

They draw a parallel between the combinations of green and yellow hues in the backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

A combination of mountains and mustard fields is not found so easily.

The mustard crop is sown in September-October.

As temperatures rise after winter, the rapeseed-mustard crop blossoms and the farm is harvested towards the end of May.

The cultivation of mustard has gained popularity among the farmers of several districts in recent years due to getting desired production and fair prices of the crop.

According to mustard growers, the crop yields this year are much better than the previous year.

Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Choudhary Muhammad Iqbal told Greater Kashmir that Kashmir was witnessing a yellow revolution this year as most farmers had opted for mustard seed cultivation.
“They are anticipating bumper crop production,” he said.
