Kupwara, May 1: In the heart of Rajwar, nestled amidst dense forests and a meandering river stream, lies the tranquil village of Brinjal.
However, this serene landscape is faced with a pressing issue that hits the future of its children. Despite the government commitment to provide education to every child, village Brinjal has been struggling to ensure access to schooling.
Previously, a government school operated out of a private residence but hopes soared in 2023 when authorities decided to merge Primary School Brinjal with Upper Primary School (UPA) Satkoji, located approximately 2 kilometers away from Brinjal.
This decision has created significant challenges for the children of Brinjal. Children now face a daunting journey to reach Satkoji, navigating through dense forests and crossing a river stream. For young children, aged 4 to 6, this journey is particularly perilous.
Around 30 children have been forced to stop attending school due to safety concerns raised by their parents. The disruption in education has serious implications for the future of children in village Brinjal. Lack of access to schooling is hindering the growth and development of these young minds.
Recently, a team led by cluster Head Behnipora Abdul Rashid Lone and senior teachers conducted a survey in Brinjal. They found children, covered in dust and mud, wandering the village streets instead of being in school. Parents, filled with helplessness, expressed their grievances to the team.
The team has submitted a report to the higher ups demanding that children be provided with access to education within their own village, ensuring their safety and well-being.
The report further seeks taking up the construction of a building for Primary School Brinjal.
