Jammu, Apr 15: The government Monday expanded its Focused Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) Monitoring Committee (FGMC) constituted for J&K, with the addition of a new member.
“In continuation of government order No 930-JK (GAD) of 2024 dated April 4, 2024, it is hereby ordered that Prof Sunil Dhar of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Central University of Jammu, shall also be a member of the FGMC for J&K,” read an order issued by Commissioner Secretary General Administration Department Sanjeev Verma.
On April 4, the J&K government constituted FGMC, with Principal Secretary Home Department as its chairperson, to review the current status of glacier and glacial lakes in Jammu and Kashmir.
The committee was tasked to identify the vulnerable glacial lakes in J&K in terms of GLOF, as per the list provided by National Disaster Management Authority.
