Ramban, May 3: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Friday.

Traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to on foot movement of nomads and their livestock, slippery road conditions, and single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, Panthyal, Nachlana Gangroo, Shalgari, and Kishtwari Pathar and poor road surface conditions at many places besides breakdown of seven heavy vehicles between Nashri and Banihal sectors.

They said that despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any interruption till late Friday evening.

The traffic officials said that heavy load carriers were heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Saturday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway.

However, traffic officials at the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban advised the vehicle operators and commuters not to undertake journeys on the highway without confirming the status of the road from TCUs of Srinagar, Jammu, and Udhampur on Saturday.

They advised commuters and LMV operators to avoid journeys on the highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal and foot movement of nomads with their livestock as it might cause inconvenience.
