Woman drug peddler arrested with heroin, cash in Kathua

Jammu, May 7: Police Tuesday arrested a woman drug peddler with heroin-like narcotics and a cash amount of Rs 15,670 in the Marheen area of Kathua district.

A police spokesperson said, “Continuing its efforts against drug menace under the “Operation Sanjeevani”, J&K Police seized approximately 3.10 grams of heroin (Chitta) like narcotics in the jurisdictional area of Police Post Marheen at Khanpur area and arrested one woman drug peddler. One mobile phone and cash amount of Rs 15,670 were also seized along with narcotics.”

   

“On May 6, 2024, information was received through reliable sources at Police Post Marheen that one woman namely Asha Bibi, wife of Mohd Sadiq, resident of Khanpur tehsil Marheen in district Kathua was doing illegal trade of selling narcotics and contraband and had kept a huge quantity of narcotics substance in her possession. She was trying to sell the same to the people of Khanpur area as well as its adjoining area under Police Post Marheen,” the spokesperson said.

“Acting swiftly, a police team led by in-charge Police Post Marheen under the supervision of SDPO Border and SHO Rajbagh laid down a special naka (checking point) at Khanpur area and apprehended the accused woman. During checking approximately 3.10 grams of Heroin (Chitta) narcotics, a cash amount worth Rs 15670 and a mobile phone were recovered from her possession,” he added.

Narcotics along with cash amount and mobile phone were seized and (woman drug) peddler was arrested on the spot by the police.

In this regard, a case vide FIR No104/2024 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Rajbagh while further investigation was underway.

“District Police Kathua once again requests people of the area to come forward and share information on 100 or 9858034100 about any such illicit activity with police for the cause. The identity of the informer will be kept confidential,” the spokesperson said.
