Srinagar, Apr 13: The Meteorological Department Saturday predicted widespread to moderate rain until Tuesday, with snowfall expected in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain or snow is expected in the higher reaches at many places during April 15 evening to April 16 morning,” the MeT officials said.
The weather is likely to remain dry, with late afternoon thundershowers at a few places between April 17 and 18.
“During April 19 and 20, partly cloudy days with light rain or snow are expected at many places,” the MeT said.
The forecasted wet weather is likely to disrupt traffic in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and may trigger landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones.
“There is a possibility of temporary disruption of surface transportation over a few higher reaches during April 13 and 14, and travellers and tourists are advised to plan accordingly,” the advisory from the MeT said.
The farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations until April 16.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature during the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, 2.6 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, and 3.2 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam.
In Jammu city, the minimum temperature was 20.5 degrees Celsius, while Katra recorded 18.1 degrees Celsius, Batote 3 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah 9 degrees Celsius, and Banihal 9.8 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
Leh town in Ladakh had a minimum temperature of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, Kargil 1.2 degrees Celsius, and Drass minus 0.5 degrees Celsius.
The Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority has also issued a low-danger level avalanche warning for Kupwara and Ganderbal districts for the next 24 hours, stating that avalanches were likely above 2500 meters over these districts.
The residents in these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas.
The weather conditions in J&K are expected to remain intermittently wet until Tuesday, and residents have been urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and advisories.
