PDP contesting elections to restore identity, dignity of people: Mehbooba Mufti

Anantnag, Apr 20 : Peoples Democratic Party leader (PDP) president and Lok Sabha candidate for Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that her party is fighting the elections for restoring the lost identity and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“These elections are not for electricity and roads. They are for restoring our identity and honour,” she told reports during a road show in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam area.

During the road show, the PDP chief briefly addressed a flurry of rallies at Seer Hamdan, Hapatnad and other hamlets of the area. Mehbooba said that they are contesting the elections to safeguard the resources of the region. “Today we have to protect our land, jobs and other resources so that we could not be subjugated”, she said. “We have to talk about the youth who are languishing in jails,”Mehbooba said.

Underlining the issues confronting the people, Mehbooba said that Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing highest employment rates alongside soaring power tariffs and inadequate ration. “But above all, we have to raise our voice to save the identity of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba emphasised.

She said that they cannot t afford to remain silent and they must continue to struggle for their cause as long as they are alive. She said that Mufti Mohamamd Sayeed as chief minister revoked the law like POTA and disbanded the Ikhawan. “At that time there were different challenges and today we face different ones,” said Mehbooba. PDP President said she is confident that she would get back the lost rights with interest.

She asked the people to come out of their homes on election day and vote for the PDP.
